4. What are Clans?
Clans (or Klans) aren't used much anymore, but originally, Kult members were divided into nine categories that indicated their main interest or specialty. The Clans are:

Cenobyte - Specializing in pleasures of the flesh, e.g. drugs and sex
Decker - Specializing in computers and security, e.g. hacking and programming
Fleshtripper - Specializing in extreme sports or endurance or physical acts
Gargoyle - Specializing in tracking down information, monitoring, or gadgetry
Houngan - Specializing in science, hardware technology, hardcore and experimental sciences
Nomad - Specializing in many different things, a jack of all trades, or a wandering explorer
Prophet - Specializing in art, music, poetry or creative writing, or other modes of creative expression
Ronin - Specializing in field operations, defense, or survivalism
Vampyre - Specializing in darkness, night walking, paranormal or the occult

Originally all new members had to choose a Clan, but now this is optional.

5. What is RantRadio or Patient Zero or Sean Kennedy or Guardians or...
A lot of things have changed in the past year in Kult. It's a long story, but there are many things that used to be very important that aren't really a part of Kult anymore except as parts of its history. Most of these things aren't important to Kult anymore except in helping to understand our history, where we've come from, and where some people get their stories from. If you are really curious, many older members can explain a lot of these topics to you. See also our History page.

6. Who is in charge?
Everyone is in charge of themselves and their cells and projects, though the Arbitration Cell has limited power to express what Kult's official beliefs are, and the exclusive power to remove people. Other decisions are made by certain cells in the Ministry of Administration, which does the work that keeps Kult running.

The Arbitration Cell is elected once every three months, with one member from each Ministry and one member elected from the general membership. They meet only as needed.

7. I am really good at HTML and I read lots of sites where I can get stories for thekult.net. Should I join?
This isn't really a good enough reason to join. We're glad you like thekult.net, our weblog and news portal. But Kult is more than a webpage or a collection of relevant news stories. We are a network of people who often work together on common goals to improve ourselves, empower people, and end victimization in society and the inequitable use of power. Many of us seek to do things which go beyond what can be done on our webpage or even just on the Internet, and we have done many things to help our members and others on the wider Internet and also in the real world. If you think Kult is just a neat website, you've got the wrong idea about us.

See http://www.thekult.net/whatkultis.html for some more information on what we are.

12. What is the other Kult at thekult.greyunion.org ?
Kult Grey Union (formerly called Kult Black Milk) is a version of Kult that has adopted a military-like leadership style based on the strict following of the writings of Sean Kennedy. It formed around the same time as TheKult.Net. KGU was founded in the spring of 2001 by a member of the old KULT, Prophet Frail, and Valmondy, a member of another group named Black Milk. Since they didn't know about this Kult, they made their own. Kult Grey Union is another counterculture group with some of the same values as Kult, but a different structure with a single leader at the top, a crew of commanding officers, and others with special titles, and everyone else divided into Clans.

13. What if I like the idea of Kult, but not sure that I want to be a member?
You can be a Friend of Kult, which gives you minimal access to the web site and doesn't require a full application.

You should contact join@thekult.net and ask about becoming a Friend. Tell us why you want to be a Friend of Kult and also feel free to discuss why you are uneasy about becoming a member.
