An industrial band has said it will go ahead with an onstage suicide during a concert in Florida this weekend, in defiance of a new city law designed to scuttle the plan.

Hell on Earth has said a suicide by a terminally ill person would take place during a concert in the city of St. Petersburg to raise awareness of right-to-die issues.

Earlier, the city council unanimously approved an emergency ordinance making it illegal to conduct a suicide for commercial or entertainment purposes, and to host, promote and sell tickets for such an event. But band leader Billy Tourtelot was defiant.

"The show will go on," he said. Full Story or Hell on Earth website.

I am one of the biggest defenders of euthanasia. Everyone should have the right to decide when and how they will die, even moreso if they are terminally ill. But what this band, who I dont even profess to know, is doing is using the excuse of promoting the right to die for some free publicity...I dont see how going through with their plan is going to help the issue one little bit...

Industrial?

As a connoisseur of the industrial, my interest was piqued at the mention of a band in the genre.
But actually this looks more like one of those "horrorcore", if you will, bands that is all about dead bodies, blood, killing things, and, presumably, satan, in an effort to be shocking and creepy and all of that (the skinned cow heads and rats in blender stuff sort of tipped me off). And they use guitars and a drum set, so are rock (everyone knows that REAL industrial bands only use synthesizers and power tools).
I doubt their ideals really go that deep beyond the one liners they give.
