SALEM -- A bill that would define violent protesters as terrorists and subject them to possible life imprisonment came under attack Monday at a packed and sometimes tense legislative hearing. Antiterror bill meets opposition at hearing. -- The Oregonion

Senate Bill 742
Relating to terrorism; creating new provisions; and amending section 19, chapter 666, Oregon Laws 2001.
 
...A person commits the crime of terrorism if the person knowingly plans, participates in or carries out any act that is intended, by at least one of its participants, to disrupt: ...Commerce or the transportation systems...
 
...A person convicted of terrorism shall be punished by imprisonment for life... the court shall order that the person be confined for a minimum of 25 years without possibility of parole, release to post-prison supervision, release on work release or any form of temporary leave or employment at a forest or work camp.

That sounds like a direct reaction to the incident in the Seattle area where protestors blocked the 520 floating bridge for roughly an hour during the morning commute.

Latest article regarding their plea.

Article explaining what they did, with a picture, and the charges filed.

I thought all of the hype about the whole thing was funny, because all you have to do to block 520 is sneeze or tap your brakelights. The damn thing's always backed up.

For the record, the 520 would never be used as an emergency vehicle travel path. It's notoriously always backed up with no escape route. They couldn't have blocked a better highway/bridge.

Anyway... terrorism? I think not. In bad taste, perhaps, but certainly not terrorism.
