World Domination
A US congressman from New Jersey is advocating a bill which would bar American aerospace companies from attending the Paris Air Show, the largest showcasing and networking event for the airplane industry.

Also, US Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has discussed with other Republicans about the possibility to impose limits on French wine and water.

Meanwhile, Americans are beginning to boycott French products because of that country's stance on war with Iraq.

Meanwhile, Thomas Friedman of the NYT thinks France should be removed from the UN Security Council. Instead, we should replace them with nascent nuclear power India. For what damning reason should France be expelled? Because France has become, in his words, "silly".

And again, meanwhile, after about a decade of British bad guys in American movies, Hollywood is urging writers to start thinking about French villians.

Quick -- how many of the 9/11 hijackers were French?

PS: Cursor rocks.

Time To Defy American Arrogance
by collideous on Feb 14, 2003 08:53PM (PST)
In 1990, Yemen was the only country to vote against the Gulf War, and a US diplomat was quick to instruct the ambassador of Yemen that "That will be the most expensive vote you would ever cast." Days later, the US cut $70 million in aid to Yemen. The "old Europeans" are now experiencing first-hand how the USA has been dealing with Third World countries for decades: might makes right. But European governments are daring to treat the USA as an equal, and not just play the role of yes-men. The reactions of US diplomats to this freedom of speech are not worthy of playground bullying. Looking at the nonsense going on in this country it's time the world asks Americans, "How could all this have happened?" But instead of millions of Americans taking to the streets to call for an end to this nonsense, we talk about a boycott of German and French products!? Europeans always make a clear distinction between US government policies they don't like and the American people they do. So, what are you telling the world, my fellow Americans? That you agree with Bush's "with us or against us"? Because if you do, the only sensible response must be, "With friends like that, who needs enemies?"
